Job Summary
The Assistant Principal assists administrators, assists in the creation of schedules, oversees athletics and activities, is responsible for student discipline, and works with faculty, staff, students and parents. This person also participates in writing and overseeing grants, works with the Mentoring and Induction Committee to support new teachers and teacher mentoring, collaborates with the Metcalf Leadership Team with testing and the School Improvement Plan. The Assistant Principal shares responsibilities with the Principal on committee membership, teacher evaluations, curriculum (also with the Lab School Curriculum and Research Coordinator), technology (with the Lab School Technology Team) and general oversight of the school. The Assistant Principal works with the School Psychologist, the Principal, on State testing.

Metcalf Laboratory School is a service unit of the College of Education of Illinois State University. It offers a comprehensive program of instruction for 400+ students in grades PreK-8. Metcalf is a caring community of life-long learners. Its mission is to act as a model for educational methods and theory in support of the preparation of future educators, conduct educational research, offer quality educational programs for children, and disseminate information to others in the educational profession.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate
$70,000 - $90,000
Required Qualifications
1. Master's Degree in Education
2. Administrative Certificate
3. Minimum of four years successful K-12 teaching experience
4. Ability to work with students, staff and parents collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Leadership qualities including excellent interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, knowledge of student discipline, problem solving ability, conflict resolution skills and commitment to high academic standards
2. Experience at a Laboratory School environment
3. Knowledge of Skyward
Work Hours
School hours, with additional evening hours to be present and supervise evening and weekend activities.
Functional Expectations
Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

2. Move about in various locations on and off campus as needed to complete day-to-day work
3. Effectively communicate on a daily basis
